For much of this year I have been reading through the Bible with the Augustine Institute ESVCE. I decided to order a Bible cover from OreMoose. It was a great experience. Communication with OreMoose was very good. I sent along the dimensions of my ESVCE and they created a cover, in the BlueJay tanned leather, and it fit exactly. I had worried that it would be too loose, but it isn’t. So far, after using it a few weeks, it honestly feels like it was made for my Bible. So, if you are looking for a really well-made Catholic Bible cover, created by a Catholic small business, I highly recommend OreMoose.

It is the bonded leather edition. I can’t remember how much I paid, but I think I got it in a slight discount on Amazon for somewhere in the $40s. The cover was a little bit over $100. I had a discount code for a first time order which reduced the price $15ish dollars.
Tim, would you recommend this over a leather rebind?

Wow, that is an interesting question. (And a tough one!) I have been using my bluejay colored one for over a month. It really is fantastic. I barely notice that it is a cover and not a rebind. However, I can’t say that that would be the same for everyone. Let me put it to you this way, I am not planing on getting any rebinds any time soon. And I had considered getting the Schuyler ESV w/Apocrypha when it’s released next year. I am not sure now.
I don’t know if that helps, but that is kind of where I am at right now.
How do you like the translation compared to the RSV (1971 or 2CE)?

It has grown on me. It has a greater consistency in translation than the RSV.
One example I noticed while reading Jonah occurs in verse 3 of the first chapter:
RSV:
“But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went on board, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.”
ESV:
“But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.”
We see at the end of the ESV that Jonah “went down into it” while the RSV (and NRSV) render it “went on board”. The Hebrew word used is “yāraḏ” which is used earlier (in both versions) to refer to Jonah having “went down” to Joppa. It is little consistencies like this that I have found in the ESV. I also like the textual notes that the ESV provides, which is far superior to the one found in the RSV or NRSV.
This isn’t to say that the ESV is perfect, but the more I read it the more I prefer it.
