Schuyler has sent two update emails this week on their upcoming premium RSV Quentel edition with the Apocrypha/Deuterocanonical books. The first email provided an expanded sample of pages from the new Bible, including pages from the Torah, the Psalms, the prophets, and the New Testament. Schuyler anticipates that the final typesetting files will be sent to the Netherlands soon to begin the production process.

In a second email, Schuyler raised the possibility of producing a limited batch of full yapp editions in red and black goatskin. “Full Yapp” refers to an oversized leather cover that folds over the corners of the book block. Here is a photo to illustrate:

If anyone is interested in preordering a full yapp edition, please contact Schuyler through their website here.

  1. Thanks for this website! I’m looking for a very high quality Catholic Bible and the Schuyler Bibles look amazing. Question – I got a vague response from evangelicalbible.com about if they plan on releasing a Catholic RSV. Do you have any more information on regarding a Catholic Edition?

    1. So far, Schuyler has not marketed this RSV as being explicitly for Catholics, but it will include the deuterocanonical books. If it uses the revised New Testament from 1971, it will be a text that is fully approved for Catholic use. The original New Oxford Annotated Bible with the 1971 RSV text received an imprimatur.

  2. I am super excited about this RSV from Schuyler. I had an ESV from them that I sold so I could purchase this new edition. But I’m confused about whether they intend to eventually publish a Catholic RSV specifically. I might think twice if there might be a Catholic specific edition down the road. Any idea?

    1. I think a specifically Catholic edition is unlikely in the near future. Schuyler has been exclusively protestant since their founding, and they are just beginning to dip their toes in the water of including the apocrypha/deuterocanonical books with this RSV edition. From a practical perspective, a “with apocrypha” edition can appeal to both Catholics and protestants, so the number of potential customers will be greater than with a specifically Catholic edition.

  3. An RSV with Apocrypha works for Catholics. As trends some to indicate (I’m talking about Canada) it would appear that Catholics and Protestants will increasingly be spending time in jail together. If we have an RSP with Apocrypha, we’ll be able to study the Bible together.
