Reader Jeff Sagarin has pre-ordered a copy of the RNJB from Book Depository, and he recently received notice that it will be shipping soon. He has volunteered to provide photos of requested verses or passages. If any of you would like to get a better sense for how the RNJB translates a particular passage, this is a great opportunity. Feel free to comment on this post with verses or passages you would like to see, and Jeff will provide photos once he receives his copy of the RNJB in the mail.

  1. If you please:

    Gen. 9:6
    Psalm 1
    Psalm 8
    1 Corinthians 14:26-39

By the way, are you all aware there is someone on the Catholic Answers Forums claiming that in Scott Hahn’s latest newsletter, he said that the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible is manuscript-complete and will be published next year?

  2. Considering the New Testament and Psalms (a slightly edited version of the Revised Grail Psalter) have already been published, I am surprised by the lack of Old Testament references in the comments. So here are my suggestions

    1 Chronicles 22: 6-9
    Jeremiah 6:11-16
    Jeremiah 29: 4-14
    Wisdom 11:21-12:2
    Proverbs 8:12-32
    Proverbs 9:1-6

  3. I just received an email from Book Depository today and also found the same information on their website when checking my account and status of the order:
    Dispatched
from the UK on 31 July 2019

They say it should take 5-8 business days to get here and so 5 business would be Wednesday, August 7 and 7 business days would be Friday, August 9. Now Saturday, August 10 is not a “business” day, but
we do have mail delivery here to maybe then, or Monday, August 12.
I’ll of course be rooting for Wednesday, August 7 🙂
And then I’ll take the pictures and email them all to Marc.

It has been ready for a while now, or at least significant portions of it have been, the bottleneck isn’t the writing but the editing. Thus Scott Hahn isn’t the problem, Ignatius Press is.

  5. According to the DLT (Darton,Longman & Todd), website in England,
the product details about the Bible is
    978 0 232 53362 0
    Hardback |2416 pp |198 x 137 mm

The analogous page on the PenguinRandomHouse website in USA has
    Product Details
    Hardcover | $59.95
    Published by Image
    Dec 03, 2019 | 2416 Pages | 6 x 9-1/4 | ISBN 9780525573197

They both have the same number of pages – 2416 – but the ISBN are different
and so are the physical dimensions. Using the fact that 25.4 mm = 1 inch,
when we convert the Penguin dimensions to mm, we get
152.4 mm x 234.95 mm and rounding of we get 152 mm x 235 mm
and then reversing the order 235 mm x 152 mm which is slightly bigger than the DLT size.

So I may pre-order the Penguin version just to end up with two copies which will look slightly different just for variety.
