R. L. Allan is currently offering imperfect copies of their recent 2024 printing of the NRSV reference editions with apocrypha at a discounted price (£140, which equates to approximately $175 at current exchange rates). This may be one of the best chances to buy an Allan bible at a lower-than-normal price if you can live with an imperfect print run. The description on the Allan site describes the imperfections as follows: “Copies discounted for print problems owing to over inking in the printing process; up to 30 pages may be affected but text remains readable in all cases.”

Allan’s have done limited print runs of the NRSV in 2012, 2019, and 2024. The 2019 edition featured 36 GSM paper, and the 2024 edition was upgraded to a slightly more opaque 40 GSM paper. Tim Wildsmith did a video comparison between the 2019 and 2024 editions here.

Currently, all color options are listed as available: black, navy blue, green, and purple goatskin. This edition uses the original Anglicized NRSV text in 8.75 point font (not the NRSV updated edition), and it features center-column cross references.

  1. As a total aside, has anyone noticed that more and more Protestant publishers in the last decade or so have been adding the term “deuterocanonical” to their vocabulary?
