Welcome to the sixteenth week of comparing the New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE) with the Revised English Bible (REB) for the second reading at Sunday’s Mass. This is a chance to compare a strongly literal translation like the NABRE New Testament with a much more dynamic translation like the REB. As the translators Continue Reading
Integrating Historical Criticism with Faith
A difficulty that I continue to confront as I study the Bible is: What is the best way to bring together historical critical scholarship with theological and faith-filled perspectives? There is a chasm between the two that relatively few authors dare to explore in a truly rigorous manner. There are Continue Reading

In Praise of the CEB Psalms

The CEB Psalms wear raw emotion on their sleeve. None of it is masked under formal language or Continue Reading

Tracking Down the Revisions in the NLT-CE and the ESV-CE
In June, I reported on my quest for more details regarding the New Living Translation – Catholic Edition(NLT-CE) and the English Standard Version – Catholic Edition (ESV-CE). The press releases for both translations stated that a team of scholars reviewed the bible text and made revisions. I’m very interested to know what verses Continue Reading
